Accuracy is the core of our journalism. At VocMedia, we are committed to ensuring that every piece of content we publish is factually correct and presented in its proper context.
Our Process
Our fact-checking process involves multiple layers of review:
- Journalist Responsibility: Reporters are responsible for the initial verification of all facts, including dates, names, locations, and statistics. They must cross-reference information using primary sources whenever possible.
- Editorial Review: All stories are reviewed by at least one editor. During this process, editors challenge claims, check the credibility of sources, and look for any logical gaps in the reporting.
- Reference Checking: For complex or investigative pieces, our team may perform a dedicated reference check, re-verifying key data points and confirm quotes with sources.
Types of Sources
We prioritize information from:
- Official government documents and reports.
- Peer-reviewed scientific studies.
- On-the-record statements from credible experts.
- Direct observations by our journalists.
Dealing with Uncertainty
If a fact cannot be independently verified, we will either omit it or clearly state the source of the claim and the lack of independent verification. We avoid speculation and distinguish clearly between established facts and expert opinions.
Third-Party Claims
When reporting on claims made by third parties (e.g., politicians, organizations), we verify the accuracy of the claim itself rather than just reporting that the claim was made, providing context where necessary to avoid misleading our audience.
Corrections
If an error is discovered after publication, we correct it as quickly as possible. Please see our Corrections Policy for more information on how we handle errors.
